Just a short post here as it’s late at night and we have to be at the airport at 5:00AM tomorrow. Early tomorrow morning we fly out to Cuba. The internet is a little bit inconvenient to access in Cuba so there won’t be any blog posts while we’re over there. So don’t worry if you don’t hear from us for a few weeks. Start to worry if you don’t hear from us for a few months.
Otherwise, enjoy some photos from our trips to Chorreadero Cave & Sumidero Canyon in Chiapas State in Mexico.
Caving in Chorreadero
They advertised this trip as the “short” caving adventure and we ended up spending 6hr underground doing some proper caving with climbing, scrambling, abseiling, swimming and jumping off waterfalls as we explored Chorreadero Cave.

The highest jump was 8m into a black pool of water. Everyone in the group (including me) chickened out except for Pedr. (If you didn’t want to do the jump then you could abseil instead.)

After we finished with a 25m abseil down an underground waterfall, we came out of the cave to discover that the area around the cave had been cordoned off because of large boulders falling from the cliffs up above. We didn’t notice any tremors while we were in the cave, but felt pretty lucky that we were underground for so long and missed the danger.

Sumidero Canyon
If caving’s not your thing this is a much easier option. You just sit in a boat with 30 of your closest Mexican friends and enjoy the scenery passing by.

The boat takes you through 13km of steep sided canyon, and if you’re lucky you can spot some of the local wildlife hanging out by the river.

We were there at the end the dry season so a lot of the plant life looked a bit sad. Except for the bits right next to the river. They were a nice healthy radioactive green.

The deepest point in Sumidero Canyon is 1000m from the river to the top of the cliffs towering waaaay up above you. It’s definitely a very impressive sight.

That’s it for now, see you again in a few weeks!
great to see all your interesting activities abseiling in that cave, looks wet and cool
We were definitely feeling wet and cold by the end of it. Slept very well that night!
